Richard Cekal's Background

Born in Montreal Richard Cekal studied Data Processing at CEGEP du Vieux Montreal. He became the Supervisor of Scientific and Engineering Data Center Operations at Northern Electric (later Northern Telecom). He ran a small engineering computer system and developed and presented computer user training in FORTRAN and in developing and running engineering applications.

He became a Hardware Analyst with the Royal Bank of Canada. His duties there included computer hardware selection then Data Center Training Officer where he was responsible for management training development for data centers across Canada.

He then became Manager of Audio-visual Production at Criterion Art Co, one of Montreal's leading commercial art companies. He managed projects ranging from audio-visual productions to major product introductions

Through Criterion, he served as Line Producer and Director of the Walsh Instrumentation Training Program - a series of thirty process control instrumentation training videotapes for process control technicians.

Two years later, he was retained by Infomart of Toronto to establish the technical side of their Ottawa branch. His responsibilities included the computer facility: hardware, software and staff training to support an online videotex database.

Upon completing this project he was appointed Corporate Relations Manager - Videotex Product at Le Groupe Videoway, Montreal. He developed and demonstrated potential applications for a Cable TV-based video decoder and videotex system. He wrote and produced marketing brochures and press releases and represented Videoway in a number of videotex conferences.

He later developed the video series "Process Control Operator Training" for SOHIO Alaska Petroleum, Anchorage AK. These trained company process control operators in a new computer graphics control system. He was later was retained by the Executive MBA program at Concordia University. He also developed and produced a series of telephone set operation and etiquette training videotapes for Northern Telecom Canada (Dan Whitham & Associates, Montreal).

He wrote and produced "The Claris CAD Training Workbook" for Claris, a subsidiary of Apple Computer. Later he performed dealer liaison and training on several Claris products through its distributor. He developed and presented a series of seminars for Apple Canada entitled "Selling into Advertising Agencies."

He was retained by CFCF-12 Television in Montreal to develop and manage an in-house technician training program. This program began with a single department, eventually encompassed all technical employees of the television station.
